Summer 2026 - Upcycled Cosplay & Prop Lab

Class Description

This week long intensive (open to ages 16+) introduces participants on how to approach creating cosplay pieces and theatrical props using primarily upcycled materials such as foam packaging, cardboard, plastics, and textiles.

Day 1: Design + Materials Lab

  • Concept sketching

  • Identifying usable waste materials (foam, plastic, fabric)

Day 2: Structure Building

  • Project: Basic prop base (weapon, mask, or armor piece)

  • Skills: Cutting, shaping, gluing

Day 3: Detailing & Texture

  • Adding dimension (layers, faux metal, distressing)

Day 4: Painting & Finishing

  • Techniques for realism (weathering, aging, sealing)

Day 5 (Large Project): Final Cosplay Piece

  • Completed prop or wearable item

  • Optional showcase / mini photoshoot

Price

This class is operating on a sliding scale. You may purchase the class at a rate you feel financially comfortable with, up to the maximum class cost of $130. All students will receive the same instruction regardless of payment.

Materials Required

Materials are included; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own items (e.g., old clothing, plastics, etc.) to incorporate into their projects..

Provided materials include cardboard, foam scraps, paints , mod podge, hot glue, e6000 glue, masking tape, and thread.
