Class Description

In this workshop, students will be given a brief history of “Plein Air” (French for “outdoors”) and a basic list of materials needed. Students will learn, through exercises, the steps, techniques, and tips used for a successful painting. The class will include sketching with paint and exercises designed to mimic what students will need to do when they go out to paint. This class is meant to prepare students for our monthly outdoor painting sessions and will be required to join them.

Price

This workshop is operating on a sliding scale. You may purchase the workshop at a rate you feel financially comfortable with, up to the maximum class cost of $130. All students will receive the same instruction regardless of payment.

Materials Required

Included:

  • Canvas paper

  • Acrylic paints (red, yellow, blue, white, black, brown)

  • Paint brushes (small, medium, large)

  • Paint palette (or paper plate)

  • Cup for water

  • Paper towel

  • Sketching paper, pencil, and eraser

  • Table easel

Students should be prepared to work outdoors: hat, umbrella, comfortable clothing.

If students have their own acrylic paints and brushes, the instructor encourages them to bring them so they can become familiar with their color palette.

Prerequisite

“Introduction to Landscape,” unless approved by the instructor.
