Drawing from Within: The Sketchbooks of Frank Novel

Frank Novel has drawn almost daily in sketchbooks since the 1970’s. Retired PennWest art professor and photographer Fred Scruton describes his “enigmatic visual diaries of daily life” as the product of “a stream of consciousness filled with figures ensnared in complex webs, pieces of the urban landscape, abstraction, poems, comic book characters, and references to pop-culture and current events.” At various times throughout the run of the exhibition, the artist himself will work in the gallery and interact with visitors.
