History of Digital Art & Technology Tools in Art

Class Description
In this 6-week course, students will explore the evolution of digital art from early computer graphics to AI-generated works in this hands-on course combining art history and creative practice. Each week highlights a key era in digital innovation, from algorithmic art and pixel graphics to virtual worlds, net art, and NFTs, while participants experiment with accessible tools like OpenProcessing, Piskel, and Tinkercad. The course culminates in a mini-exhibition showcasing student projects.
Price
This class is operating on a sliding scale. You may purchase the class at a rate you feel financially comfortable with, up to the maximum class cost of $180. All students will receive the same instruction regardless of payment.

About the Instructor - Toni Mazanowski
Educator, civic leader, and lifelong learner, Toni Mazanowski is deeply committed to her community and to nurturing the next generation. She holds 2 Associate Degrees in Computer Information Systems (Computer Networking) and Security and Forensics from Tri-State Business Institute and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Technology Administration and Management from Western Governors University. Toni has worked in a variety of institutional settings as both a college professor and a high school educator specializing in IT. As such, she is passionate about helping students develop the skills and confidence to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
Her civic involvement reflects her dedication to Erie’s growth and vitality. Toni served on the City of Erie’s Planning Commission, the American Rescue Plan Financial Advisory Council, and the board of directors for Harborcreek Youth Services. She is also a member of the Jefferson Education Society’s 2019 Civic Leadership Academy cohort and an active volunteer with the Hagen History Center, where she combines her love of history with community engagement.
An advocate for education, sustainability, and collaboration, Toni believes in strengthening Erie through connection and shared purpose.
