Trees Breathe Out People Breathe In David Greenberger, 2000
Trees Breathe Out is the result of Greenberger’s month-long residency at the Erie Art Museum, as part of the “Artist as Catalyst” program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. During this residency he met and recorded discussions with a variety of Erie’s elder citizens. Greenberger states, “I’ve wanted examples of aging for myself, and I have made it my job to find ways in which to communicate those examples to others.” To accomplish this, Greenberger has dedicated more than two decades to the reformation of the stereotypical ways people view aging, the elderly and death.
