Dziga Vertov Performance Group

Dziga Vertov Performance Group performs a unique two-part set of original compostions, the first of which is called Solution, a visual and musical portrayal of the Holocaust, and Pastorale, a cinematic, poetic movement. This is accomplished through the mixed media combination of computer-generated video projections and guitar. This group, which defies classification, features Douglas Rosenberg on live video, Scott Fields as guitar player and composer, and co-composer Ryan Smith on laptop computer. DVPG, founded by Douglas Rosenberg in 1991, has bridged many musical gaps, engaging and challenging audiences and critics alike.

Douglas Rosenberg has garnered many honors, such as an EMMY nomination and a fellowship in performance from the University of Wisconsin. He has resided in various locales such as The Institute for Studies in The Arts, and the International Festival of Video Dance in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is well respected on the world stage, having performed at the Video Festival Riccionne Teatro Televisione, Riccione, Italy and The Contemporary Art Museum in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Ryan Smith has performed his art in various settings such as dance halls and concerts throughout the US, primarily in the Midwest. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition and a certificate in Women’s Studies. Smith currently resides in New York City.

Scott Fields, guitarist and composer, perfected his technique as part of the Chicago free-jazz scene from the 1960’s until the early 1970’s, but took a leave of absence from performing until 1990, when he joined DVPG. He has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, garnering rave reviews for his music. Fields currently resides in Madison, WI.
