First there were fish. Then there were frogs. Now… Bike Racks! The Erie Art Museum is thrilled to announce the newest public art project to hit the streets of Erie. We’re partnering with community organizations to install 40 artistic and functional artist-designed bike racks downtown, with plans to expand the installation to outlying areas. The project began with a call for artists to submit designs for consideration; seven designs were chosen from a total of 234 submissions by 74 artists.
This public art project will not only serve the cycling community, but will also add color and interest to downtown Erie, build civic pride, and connect the arts with the community. Additionally, the project encourages bicycling, and addresses issues of transportation, recreation, health, well-being, and environmental awareness. Be on the lookout as installation begins this summer!
