85th Annual Spring Show

Main Floor Gallery
April 26, 2008 – June 22, 2008

The deadline for submissions to the annual Spring Show is April 6th, 2008. The Museum is proud to announce that Dave Hickey will serve as Juror of Selection and Awards.
Hickey has written for and has been written about in many well known publications, including Rolling Stone, Art News, Art in America, Artforum, Harper’s Magazine, The New York Times, and The Los Angeles Times. His collected essays, published as The Invisible Dragon: Four Essays on Beauty, and Air Guitar: Essays on Art and Democracy have worked their way into contemporary art criticism in the relatively brief time since their publication. A former gallery-owner and songwriter, Hickey recently curated the fourth Site Santa Fe (NM) Biennial, which he titled “Beau Monde.” For this he was awarded the 2001-2002 Best Show in a Kunsthalle Award from the Association of International Critics of Art. He is currently professor of Art Criticism and Theory at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Hickey is immensely interested in art, whether he thinks he understands it completely or not. He’s neither afraid, nor over-charmed. He can see, and is able to explain what he sees to someone else in clear yet swift running prose that’s very intellectually enjoyable to read. He’s prone to drawing illuminating, unexpected parallels between things like Shakespeare’s sonnets and Robert Maplethorpe’s Portfolio X. His lectures are notoriously entertaining, thought-provoking, and feather-ruffling events.

Dave Hickey’s visit is made possible through a collaboration between the Museum and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Hickey will give a public lecture at EUP on April 9th at 7 p.m.
