The Erie Art Museum's Annual Spring Show, in its 80th
year, opened Saturday, April 26, in the main floor gallery at 411 State
Street and ran through June 22, 2003. An annual juried exhibition of
292 local and regional artists entered over 600 works of art in hope
of being selected into the show. This year's juror was Chicago art critic
James Yood. Yood is a professor at the Art Insitute of Chicago and correspondent
for ArtForum and tema celeste, and writes regularly for GLASS
magazine, American Craft and Art and Auction. Yood
selected 86 works of art by 86 artists, encompassing a wide variety of
work including photography, sculptures, paintings, ceramics, fiber art,
and more.
As part of the Annual Spring Show, several awards were selected by the Juror
plus two awards were presented by the Northwestern Pennsylvania Artist's Association.
The Juror's Awards went to Allison Fomich, Art Becker and Jason Oros from Erie,
John Bavaro and Kitty Alward from Edinboro,and Amy Casey from Cleveland, OH.
In addition, the Northwestern Pennsylvania Artist's Association (NPAA) presented
an award to Christine Palotas Bowler of Erie. There are also guaranteed purchases,
which, coupled with the awards, total over $10,000 in prizes and purchases for
the artists.
