A selection of works by contemporary Indonesian artists comprises this exhibition from local collector, Sam Pees. The focus of the exhibition is Umar Sumarta, currently living and working in Bandung, West Java. Sumarta explores the Sudanese mystic traditions in his art, depicting spirits, ghosts, ceremony, magic, as well as daily village life. One of his preferred motifs is horses and their role in the certain local ceremonies. His style ranges from surreal dream sequences as in traditional Indonesian art to a painterly style illustrating European influences. Sumarta has exhibited widely in Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali.
