79th
Annual Spring Show
April 20 - June 19, 2002
The Erie Art Museum's Annual Spring Show, in its 79th year,
opened Saturday, April 27, in the main gallery and ran through June 16,
2002. This juried exhibition offered a wide selection of artworks including
painting, photography, ceramics, scuptures, and much more. The art on
display was chosen from 307 local and regional artists who entered 547
works for the show. Of those, the juror selected 83 works by 83 artists.
This year's juror was Sandy Skoglund,an installation artist
and photographer from New York. She studied studio art and art history
at Smith College for her B.F.A. and later received her M.F.A. in painting
from the University of Iowa. Many of her installation pieces have been
commissioned by galleries and museums across the country and in Europe.
As part of the Annual Spring Show, Juror's Awards as well
as the Northwestern Pennsylvania Artist's Association Award are given
to selected artists. In addition to the awards, there are also guaranteed
purchases, all totaling $10,000 in cash award prizes and purchases. This
year's Juror's Awards went to: Kaersten Colvin-Woodruff of Clarion, Pa,
Liz Lee of Fredonia, NY, Megan Thayer of Edinboro, PA, Daniel Burke of
Erie. Daniel Burke also won the NPAA Award and Suzanne Proulx of Erie
won the Henry Katzwinkel NPAA Award. The juror also noted four Honorable
Mentions to artists John Bavaro of Edinboro, Brett Davis of Stoneboro,
PA, Molly Jarboe of Buffalo, NY, and Kathe Kowalski of Edinboro.
