Nursery of My Indecision
by Kathy King

September 13 - December 1, 2002

Ceramic artist Kathy King’s installation piece, Nursery of My Indecision, was on display in the ground floor galleries through December 1.

The Nursery, with a satirical treatment, examines the role of contemporary women. Through illustrations on ceramic vessels, tiled furniture, and prints King tells a story, using herself as the protagonist. She pokes fun at the myths of female roles – both the myth of women as passive and weak that the feminist movement of the 1970s abolished and the myth feminism in turn created, that of women who could do everything and have it all. In the Nursery, King puts the viewer in a space where it is not possible to have it all and the viewer must try to find equilibrium among the pulls in modern female life.

Currently an assistant professor of art in ceramics at Georgia State University, King has participated in group shows for SOFA Chicago, the 21st Annual Teapot Invitational in Northampton, Mass., Emerging Artists of the US at the Vermont Clay Studio, and many more. She exhibited her installation, Rec Room of My Discontent, at SPACES Gallery in Cleveland in 1999.
