Terry McKelvey:
Recent Paintings

December 5 - January 26, 2001

Instinct

Artist Terry McKelvey employs painting to "transform private fears into tableaux that feel universal." Some of McKelvey's recent paintings go on exhibit at the Museum's Frame Shop Gallery beginning December 5. Grappling with issues of uncertainty, McKelvey states, "Painting grants me awareness that there are multiple perspectives to any issue, and few absolutes in life. I try to establish the enigma of a situation while making paintings that seem true to the viewer, the way a dream seems true to the sleeper."

Terry McKelvey graduated with honors at the Maine College of Art, and went on to complete a Master of Fine Arts degree at Cornell University. Currently an Assistant Professor of Painting and Foundations at Edinboro University, McKelvey was formerly a Visiting Professor of Painting and Drawing at Purdue University, Lecturer in Painting at the University of Maine, and Instructor of Painting and Drawing at Maine College of Art. His artwork has been displayed in many solo and group exhibitions, was featured in a publication in Switzerland, and is the subject of numerous articles.
