Les LeVeque's installation Is It Love: We Miss You.
Technology
is one of the most significant forces in our culture. It is not only
the
practical application of science and engineering, it is also a model
that shapes our thinking about change and progress, knowledge and information,
design and aesthetics, and even the way that we visualize the human body
and life processes. The exhibition technology culture, on display
at the Erie Art Museum gallery from December 31, 1996 through March 9,
1997 features technological works such as electronic or computer pieces
as well as other artworks that draw from the imagery of technology. For
more information, call the Museum at 814-459-5477.
Exploring the ways in which electronic technologies have permeated our
lives, the artists in this exhibition both utilize and comment upon current
technology. Five individual artists, a two-artist collaboration, and
a multi-artist collaborative team exhibit 65 works ranging from paintings
and photographs which explore techno/social issues to elaborate installations
which involve the viewer in experiences calculated to enhance our awareness
and understanding of some of these same issues.
Guest curator for this exhibition is Robert Raczka, Associate Professor
of Art and Gallery Director, Allegheny College, Meadville. Participating
artists include Beverly Fishman, Gloria DeFillips Brush, Simon Penny
and Jamieson Schulte, Fred Lonidier, Tom Patton, Les LeVeque, and TODT. |
