About The Frame Shop
The Erie Art Museum Frame Shop was established in 1975 to mount and frame exhibits for the Erie Art Museum. Since its inception it has also offered its services to the community. The Frame Shop has been under the management of Master Framer Joseph Allen Popp since 1990. The same level of care and craftsmanship that is applied to the many valuable works in the Museum collection, and those loaned to the Museum for exhibition, is offered to Frame Shop customers. This public service follows from the Museum's mission to serve the region through arts education, and a desire to preserve our regional heirlooms.
The Frame Shop's services are priced competitively with the local market while offering the added benefit of having a skilled master craftsman working on your precious objects. Erie Art Museum members receive the additional benefit of a 15% discount on framing services.
The Frame Shop also offers the services of art conservation and restoration, using a wide range of appropriate methods and materials to preserve and display your valued art, documents and objects. The Master Framer works closely with several registered conservators who are skilled in various methods of repair and restoration.
"My main objective is to do what is right for the particular piece I am working on," Popp states. "As a museum framer, I take pride in using only archival materials and museum methods at the same cost as standard commercial framing. I also like to educate my customers about how and why we use the methods and materials we do. Whether it's a valuable painting, or a simple picture drawn by your 6 year old child, if it's worth framing, it's worth framing right."
