Permanent Collection
Nicholas Gallery

Among the many things not to be missed in the new galleries are selections from the Museum’s permanent collection. Many of the Museum’s treasures are on display for the first time, along with old favorites, in the Multi-Purpose Room and in the Frenzel and Nicholas Galleries. In addition to works by Erie natives Joseph Plavcan and Ruth Newton, visitors will find exhibits of works by English photographer Tony Ray-Jones, Chicago ceramist Raymon Elozua, Pop art painter John Clem Clarke, Abstract Illusionist painter George D. Green and others scattered throughout the facility. Two larger collections are highlighted in the Nicholas Gallery:

Drawings from the Collection
The 34 drawings on view range from abstract to realistic, with a strong emphasis on the figure. Most are by contemporary artists, but historical examples date from as early as the eighteenth century.

American Ceramics
The Museum’s holdings include a wide range of ceramics, featuring a variety of styles and decorative techniques. A selection of American ceramics make up this exhibit, including Teco pottery, works by Frederick Hurten Rhead, a selection of iridescent-glazed Sicardo vases, works by George Ohr, a Louis Comfort Tiffany vase, and a group of contemporary ceramics. A selection of Art Deco works includes Viktor Schreckengost’s iconic Jazz Bowl.
